There
are three videos available from Elektrodome "Improvisions"
a series of six real-time interactive music and video pieces. In "Improviosions"
the technique - devised by Brian Johnson, and developed in collaboration
with Edward Williams - is to relay to the musicians, playing
in a sound studio, a series of video images generated by the artist
at the same time in a separate studio.
These
images are selected and mixed from a variety of sources - film photographs,
solid objects on a revolving display, graphics of all kinds, including
computer graphics programmes, and moving images form oscillographics
generator designed and built by Brian Johnson himself. Video
cameras in the sound studio contribute images of the musicians playing.
At
the same time, the musicians' sounds are sent to the video studio, where
voltages derived from pitch or amplitude are used to modify and colour
images - and these changes are, of course, immediately seen by the players
in the sound studio. So starts a recursive, inter-active collaboration
in which Brian Johnson's images "inspire" the
musicians and the musicians "play" the images!
"Impressions of Elektrodome" a compilation of short
excerpts from Elektrodome's performances and workshops since 1990.
"Nu"
is a dance piece with music generated by the dancers' movements
in Soundbeam, first pefromed at The Place, London, England.
